Pressure Washer Pumps Parts 101

Having pressure washer or pump problems? I wrote this pressure washer pumps parts page to share my pro experience and help you troubleshoot your problem. And if quick troubleshooting doesn't work, I share important tips to help you replace your pump.

And you'll probably want to check out my #1 top pressure washer replacement pump choice: the Generac universal replacement pump that works with any washer brand & is available on Amazon.

Pressure Washer Troubleshooting Tips

Pressure washers are incredible cleaning tools! But, unfortunately, all pressure washers wear out or have a performance problem. As any pro knows, you should take a look at the most common reasons for problems, first!

Remember: make sure your pressure washer is turned off when you inspect it. And replace worn out or damaged parts.

Here's my quick troubleshooting checklist :

1. Check your power supply. If you have an electric washer make sure the outlet is working and that a fuse has not been blown. If you have a gas unit, you need to check your oil level and spark plug.

2. Check your water supply. Is your spigot turned on?

3. Check your hoses. Are both hoses hooked up to your pressure washer? Does your garden hose or high pressure hose have a kink? Are your hoses leaking?

4. Inspect your inlet hose, inlet valve & intake filter. Make sure your inlet hose doesn't have blockages or buildup. Check to make sure your intake valve isn't caked with dirt or buildup. You can use a towel or old toothbrush to clean it. Make sure the o-ring seal/gasket is tight & not leaking. Don't forget to check the intake filter! You can also clean this with an old toothbrush. Or replace it.

5. Inspect your spray nozzle. Is it clean, undamaged, and not leaking? If it's clogged, a thin-gauge wire can open it up again.

6. Take a look at your spray gun. They can quickly wear out. Or get blocked with dirt. Or leak. I don't recommend trying to repair a spray gun. Trust me, they're so cheap, it's much better to replace bad ones.

Pressure Washer Pumps Parts

If you're still having  problems, here's my pressure washer pumps parts pro advice:

If you have a gas pressure washer and only need a slight repair or pump replacement, you're better off doing it yourself - rather than buying a whole new unit.

There are dozens of  websites that have a wide selection of pressure washer parts and accessories at very competitive prices.

Most good gas pressure washers are priced between $300 -- $700+, but you can pick up a brand new, high quality replacement pump for about a $100. (See below). Pressure washer pumps are incredibly easy to install - usually just a matter of removing 3-4 bolts!

Here's my highly recommended replacement pumps - and why I recommend them:

When you compare power, quality, speed & cost, I really recommend the Generac 6596 as the #1 gas pressure washer!

Here's why I think it's the best gas pressure washer choice:

With it's powerful Generac 196 cc OHV gas engine, you'll get a whopping 2,800 PSI with 2.5 GPM - which is a powerful amount of cleaning power! You'll be able to clean much faster than if you were using an electric unit.

For such a power house of a washer, this Generac weighs a relatively lightweight 65.5 lbs. But what makes it very unique is that it has a specially designed frame that perfectly balances the engine & pump over the axle, for lighter handling. This Generac washer moves easily & effortlessly!

The spray gun is molded so it's comfortable in your hand - even if you're using it for a long time. And I really, really like the oversized Never-Flat tires. Goodbye to irritating flat tires while you're working.

Here's My Top Recommendation for the Best Electric Pressure Washer:

I highly recommend the AR Blue Clean AR383 as the best electric pressure washer for any homeowner! Here's why I think it's the best electric unit:

It provides 1900 PSI which gives you very good cleaning power & speed - and  it has an Annovi Reverberi Triplex 3 axial piston pump!  As a pro, I know very well that the quality of your pump is critical for good cleaning results, consistent performance & long life. This Annovi Triplex pump is a much higher quality & longer lasting pump than you'll see on other electric washers.  And you can read other customer reviews on

And I know you'll really appreciate that this AR Blue Clean has a hose reel! Finally - you can get a hose reel on an electric unit! Trust me, the fact that you can neatly & quickly store your 20ft hose on the unit will help you work faster & more safely. And it's also easier to store. You can check this item at Amazons price.
