Finding your perfect gas powered pressure
washer is easy after you read my pro buying tips & reviews. We’ll review
what to look for in a gas power washer and I’ll independently review some
popular models. And we’ll talk about the standard gas pressure washer ratings
you need to know. And I'll share my #1 top rated Generac gas pressure washer with 2,800 PSI that's also available on Amazon.
When you’re comparing gas power pressure washers on the market, the first thing you want to check is the PSI (Pounds per Square Inch) rating of any model you’re interested in. The PSI rating tells you the amount of pressure that the pump is able to produce in the water coming out of the spray nozzle. The higher the PSI rating on a gas power washer, the stronger the pump is, and the more cleaning power you’ll get. You’ll clean faster & deeper. However, a higher PSI rating usually comes with a slightly higher price tag.
For example: the garden hose at your home
produces an average PSI rating of 40 to 60 PSI. But popular gas powered
pressure washers can give you 1,900 to 3,200+ PSI. That’s a lot of cleaning
You’ll also want to take note of the pump type. On gas powered units, you’ll see either an axial pump or a triplex pump. An axial cam pump is the most popular type pump you’ll see. Axial pumps are quality, direct drive pumps. And if you eventually wear out an axial pump, it’s easy to replace. You might also see triplex pumps on a few gas power washers. They are higher-end pumps built with heavier components and are preferred by commercial pressure washers. But they do have a higher price tag than axial pumps.
Next, you’ll want to compare the GPM (Gallons per Minute) rating on each model. GPM is the rating that tells you how quickly the water from your garden hose will flow through the pressure washer. A faster GPM, or flow rate, means that the water flows faster and gives you faster cleaning. The GPM rating is really important to compare if you’re considering cleaning big projects like a large deck, swimming pool or tennis/basketball court and you want to get the job done as quickly as possible.
And don’t forget to double-check
the warranty! Warranties vary greatly from brand to brand. Make sure the
manufacturer of your gas pressure washer stands behind its product and offers a
good warranty for the engine & pump!
My Tip: when you’re comparing two gas powered pressure washer models, always consider the overall weight of the unit. I’ve seen some good quality units that weigh as little as 65lbs, and there are some powerful gas models that weigh 175lbs. Or more. My advice is to think about where you need to take you washer (Steps, hills, loading in a truck?) and consider how much weight you can easily carry or maneuver by yourself.
Now you can confidently choose
the best gas powered pressure washer!
