Pressure Washer Repair Tips

I wrote this pressure washer repair tips page to help you get your unit up and running! Modern pressure washers do an incredible job of cleaning, but when they break down, it's frustrating. So here are my pro tips to save you time, hassles & money.

And you can see my #1 recommendation for a replacement pressure washer pump: the Generac universal pump that works on all pressure washer brands & is available on Amazon.

Getting Your Pressure Washer Repair Done - Quickly

Do you need pressure washer repair  - or pump replacement - and think you're covered under the manufacturers warranty?  Each manufacturers warranty varies, from 30 days to one year, so it's always worth the effort to check to see if you're still covered under your warranty

The first step to see if you're covered under warranty - or to find a local service center -  is to look for the name plate affixed to your pressure washer. The name plate is usually a 2-3" silver plate or sticker, near the engine, that lists your model number, serial number, date code and 800 service number.

Here's what a service name plate looks like:

If you're like me, and most other pressure washer owners, you bought your unit from a store or website that doesn't have an in-house service department.

So, you should call the manufacturers 800 number on your name plate. Read off the information on your name plate & you can find out if you're covered under warranty. And you can get more information about their service & return policy.

If you're not  under the original manufactures warranty, they can direct you to a local service & repair center.

My Electric Pressure Washer Repair Tip: if you have a relatively inexpensive electric pressure washer, that you've gotten a few years worth of good use from, you might want to consider the cost of getting it repaired versus  the cost of buying a new unit.

Example: If your pressure washer cost about $225 and your repairs (parts and/labor) are going to cost you more than a $100, replacing your broken electric unit with a brand new  unit might be a better choice. Service shops in my area (Pennsylvania)  usually charge $35 to $50 per hour for work.  Of course, it's up to you.

My Gas Pressure Washer Repair Tip:  If you have a gas pressure washer and only need a slight repair, or pump replacement, you'll probably be better off doing the repair or pump replacement - rather than buying a new unit.

Most good gas pressure washers are priced between $300 -- $700+, but you can pick up a brand new, high quality replacement pump for about a $100. (See below). Pressure washer pumps are incredibly easy to install - usually just a matter of removing 3-4 bolts.  And there are lots of online stores selling replacement parts.

Here's my highly recommended replacement pumps - and why I recommend them:

This horizontal Generac pump is a universal fit - so it will work with any pressure washer brand or engine up to 3,000 PSI with a horizontal mount.

When you compare quality & price, you just can't beat this Generac pump.

It's shipped to you completely sealed - and ready to be installed next to your engine. I love that it comes completely sealed & with proper fluids. No leaks. Extra easy & fast installation for you. And Generac consistently produces quality pressure washer pumps. You can read other customer reviews on Amazon.com.

This Himore Universal vertical mount pump, available on Amazon, is my top choice if you need a vertical mount replacement pump.

This vertical mount pump with 7/8" shaft fits any model or brand of pressure washer with a maximum of 2700 PSI and 2.4 GPM.

And this Himore Universal Vertical Pump will come to you filled with pump oil, sealed and ready to be put onto your washer. No annoying leaks or refilling. Super easy installation so you won't waste time getting your unit up & running again.

And it's very economically priced. You can pick it up for less than $100! You can check this item at Amazon.com's price.

And this AR North America Triplex pump is my #1 Choice when you need a replacement triplex  pump.

I love the construction: one piece that's made with a special alloy aluminum and bronze base. It's oversized to give you the maximum strength & longest life.

It works  great for gas pressure washer units up to 4,000 PSI and 3 GPM. And it features a 3/8" quick connect - so hooking it up only take a few minutes. You can check this item at Amazon.com's price.

Here's My Top Recommendation for the Best Gas Pressure Washer:

When you compare power, quality, speed & cost, I really recommend the Generac 6596 as the #1 gas pressure washer!

Here's why I think it's the best gas pressure washer choice:

With it's powerful Generac 196 cc OHV gas engine, you'll get a whopping 2,800 PSI with 2.5 GPM - which is a powerful amount of cleaning power! You'll be able to clean much faster than if you were using an electric unit.

And I want to say that I really like the high quality Generac axial cam pump. It's built to last over the long haul. And you can read other customer reviews on Amazon.com.

For such a power house of a washer, this Generac weighs a relatively lightweight 65.5 lbs. But what makes it very unique is that it has a specially designed frame that perfectly balances the engine & pump over the axle, for lighter handling. This Generac washer moves easily & effortlessly!

The spray gun is molded so it's comfortable in your hand - even if you're using it for a long time. And I really, really like the oversized Never-Flat tires. Goodbye to irritating flat tires while you're working.

The Generac 6596 is an excellent gas pressure washer at a great price.  You can see Amazon.com's price.

Here's My Top Recommendation for the Best Electric Pressure Washer:

I highly recommend the AR Blue Clean AR383 as the best electric pressure washer for any homeowner! Here's why I think it's the best electric unit:

It provides 1900 PSI which gives you very good cleaning power & speed - and  it has an Annovi Reverberi Triplex 3 axial piston pump!  As a pro, I know very well that the quality of your pump is critical for good cleaning results, consistent performance & long life. This Annovi Triplex pump is a much higher quality & longer lasting pump than you'll see on other electric washers.  And you can read other customer reviews on Amazon.com.

And I know you'll really appreciate that this AR Blue Clean has a hose reel! Finally - you can get a hose reel on an electric unit! Trust me, the fact that you can neatly & quickly store your 20ft hose on the unit will help you work faster & more safely. And it's also easier to store. You can check this item at Amazons price.
