How to Buy a Pressure Washer

If you want to learn how to buy a pressure washer that fits your cleaning jobs – and your budget – you’ve come to the right page! I share my years of pro experience to help you to make the right choice. We’ll review the two main types of pressure washers, learn what the standard industry ratings mean & I’ll independently review some of the best models on the market.

And I'll share my #1 top rated Generac gas pressure washer with 2,800 PSI that's also available on Amazon.

There are two main types of pressure washers designed for homeowners: electric or gas powered. Both types have their advantages and disadvantages. Let’s talk about whether you an electric or gas unit is right for you:

Do you need to know how to buy a pressure washer to tackle outdoor cleaning jobs like washing cars, walkways, windows, patios and outdoor furniture? Do you plan to use your pressure washer about once a month – or less? Would you have difficulty safely moving a 50lb+ pressure washer where you need to clean - especially up steps or hills? Would you like the option to be able to use your pressure washer to clean out a shed, garage or basement?

If you answered “yes” to these questions, an electric pressure washer would be your best choice.

The newest generation of electric pressure washers are powerful, compact and lightweight. They are designed to effectively clean light to medium jobs like cars, RV’s, walkways, patios, outdoor furniture and much more. And they’re so light & easy to carry! Many electric pressure washers only weigh about 30lbs. And don’t forget that since electric pressure washer motors don’t emit fumes, like gas pressure washers do, you can use them indoors too. And electric power washers are very competitively priced.

Or, do you need to know how to buy a pressure washer to tackle even more tough cleaning jobs like outdoor grills, set in stains, mold, oil/grease stains, swimming pools or stripping paint? Do you plan on using your washer several times a month – or more? Are you able to safely maneuver a power washer unit that’s 50-100lbs?

If you’ve answered “yes” to these questions, a gas pressure washer is probably a better choice for you.

Here's My Top Recommendation for the Best Gas Pressure Washer:

When you compare power, quality, speed & cost, I really recommend the Generac 6596 as the #1 gas pressure washer!

Here's why I think it's the best gas pressure washer choice:

With it's powerful Generac 196 cc OHV gas engine, you'll get a whopping 2,800 PSI with 2.5 GPM - which is a powerful amount of cleaning power! You'll be able to clean much faster than if you were using an electric unit.

And I want to say that I really like the high quality Generac axial cam pump. It's built to last over the long haul. And you can read other customer reviews on Amazon.com.

For such a power house of a washer, this Generac weighs a relatively lightweight 65.5 lbs. But what makes it very unique is that it has a specially designed frame that perfectly balances the engine & pump over the axle, for lighter handling. This Generac washer moves easily & effortlessly!

The spray gun is molded so it's comfortable in your hand - even if you're using it for a long time. And I really, really like the oversized Never-Flat tires. Goodbye to irritating flat tires while you're working.

The Generac 6596 is an excellent gas pressure washer at a great price.  You can see Amazon.com's price.

You can tackle any light, medium or heavy-duty cleaning job with a gas power washer. Gas units are built with stronger parts, engines and pumps, so they produce more PSI (Pounds per Square Inch). And more PSI means more cleaning power. Gas models last longer than their electric counterparts. Because they offer more cleaning power, you can finish jobs faster with a gas model. And yes, they are heavier, can only be used outdoors and cost slightly more than electric models.

How to Buy a Pressure Washer Online

I love shopping online for the best deals! It’s easy, quick & I can usually save some money. But I wanted to warn you that there are a lot of “unauthorized” retailers out there selling pressure washers. They have rock bottom prices, but the manufacturer hasn’t authorized them as an official retailer. But what no one tells you is that when you buy from an online retailer that’s “unauthorized”, the manufacturer and seller many not honor the warranty! Or offer a fair return policy! This is important – so I wanted to share this buyer-beware tip. Before you buy a pressure washer online, email the seller to ask if they authorized, what their return policy is and who covers the warranty. Get it in writing! It’ll save you hassles & money!

If you follow these tips, you’ll know how to buy a pressure washer that’s perfect for your budget & cleaning jobs!
