Choosing a Home Pressure Washer Checklist:

1  The first choice you need to make is to decide between an electric or  gas pressure washer.

Electric pressure washers are popular with homeowners because they are lightweight, quieter and slightly more economical than the average gas model. They're easy to move around and they work great on everyday cleaning jobs like washing your car, porch, walkway, outdoor furniture, windows, etc. They also have the advantage of being able to clean indoors, too. So if you're planning on power washing your garage or basement, an electric unit is your best choice.

Gas pressure washers are noisier and a little bit more expensive than electric models. But you get a whole lot more cleaning power. You can clean much faster with a gas washer and they really do a great job on tough work like: stripping paint, removing stains, mildew & algae. Gas pressure washer are heavier than electric units, so you'll work a little harder to move them around. And, as you know, gas pressure washers can only be used outdoors.

2. Consider the differences between pumps & engines on gas versus electric pressure washers.

If you choose a gas power washer, I do recommend that you invest in a unit that has a brand name engine and pump. Yes, it may cost you just a few more dollars. But buying a gas pressure washer with a brand name engine & brand name pump will give you a better value over the long run.

I can tell you, from my years of experience, you'll have less performance problems, longer & better warranty coverage - and easier repair/replacements -  by buying brand name engines & pumps for gas units.

There are many brand engines out there, like:  Honda, Briggs & Stratton, Excell, Generac, etc.  And many brand name pumps including:  Comet, CAT, General, AR, Briggs and Stratton, etc.

If you choose an electric pressure washer please remember that they generally have non-replaceable and non-repairable engines & pumps.  Models made by Karcher, AR Blue, Dirt Devil, etc are not designed to allow you to replace an engine or pump.  If your engine or pump wears out on these electric units, you'll need to buy an entirely new unit. But electric home pressure washers are very economically priced.

3  And make sure you compare the standard pressure washer ratings, on each model, when you're choosing a home pressure washer. You'll want to look out for the PSI (Pounds per Square Inch) and GPM (Gallons per Minute).

The PSI number is the rating of the force that the pressure washer pump is able to produce in the water.  And GPM is the rate of the water flow through the unit.  The higher the PSI or GPM rating, the more cleaning power you will have. And you'll be able to clean faster.  So, make sure you compare the PSI & GPM ratings, along with the prices on each model, when you're choosing a home pressure washer.

My Top Recommendation for the Best Electric and  Best Gas Pressure Washer:

I highly recommend the AR Blue Clean AR383 as the best electric pressure washer for any homeowner! Here's why I think it's the best electric unit:

It provides 1900 PSI which gives you very good cleaning power & speed - and  it has an Annovi Reverberi Triplex 3 axial piston pump!  As a pro, I know very well that the quality of your pump is critical for good cleaning results, consistent performance & long life. This Annovi Triplex pump is a much higher quality & longer lasting pump than you'll see on other electric washers.  And you can read other customer reviews on Amazon.com.

And I  know you'll really appreciate that this AR Blue Clean has a hose reel! Finally - you can get a hose reel on an electric unit! Trust me, the fact that you can neatly & quickly store your 20ft hose on the unit will help you work faster & more safely. And it's also easier to store. You can check this item at Amazon.com.

And comparing power, speed, quality & price, I highly recommend the Generac 6596 as the #1 gas pressure washer! Here's why I think it's the best gas unit:

You'll get a whopping 2,800 PSI with 2.5 GPM - which is a powerful amount of cleaning power! You'll be able to clean much faster than if you were using an electric unit.

And I want to say that I really like the strong & high quality 196cc Generac OHV engine and it's sturdy axial cam pump. It's built to last. And you can read other customer reviews on Amazon.com.

I also want to let you know that the spray gun is molded so it's comfortable in your hand - even if you're using it for a long time. And I really like the oversized, Never-Flat tires. Goodbye to irriating flat tires while you're working.

The Generac 6596 is an excellent gas pressure washer at a great price.  You can see it on Amazon.com.
