The efficiency & low cost of these modern axial pumps are the main reasons that most homeowners can afford to own their own power washer and no longer have to rent one.

Axial Power Washer Pump Buying Tips

When you shop for a replacement pump, if you have a CAT pump, you don’t have to buy another CAT pump. First, you need to know the PSI & GPM ratings of your existing unit. Then you can look at other pump brands and as long as the PSI (Pounds per Square Inch) rating and the GPM (Gallons per Minute) rating match up. Easy.

And, of course, you’ll want to make sure the mount direction on your new pump matches your old pump. You’ll see both horizontal and vertical mounted units on pressure washers.

Replacing Your Axial Power Washer Pump

Replacing pumps is easier than it first sounds. If you don’t have your owner’s manual handy, I’ll review the basic steps you should take after your washer has been turned off & has cooled down:

First, you’ll want to remove your garden hose from the inlet value. Then take off the nozzle hose from the pump.

If you do have a soap/chemical hose, you’ll want to take it off the valve.

You’ll see that your old pump is attached to the frame with 3 Allen bolts. Slowly loosen, then remove, these 3 bolts.

Now you can pull the pump off the engine’s crankshaft.

To finish up, all you need to do is put the old thermal relief valve on the new pump, slide the pump onto the engines crankshaft and make sure the mounting holes line up. Then just put the Allen bolts back on and you’re ready to go.
